Welcome to Taroona Apartment, a modern self-contained unit on the ground floor of our home and surrounded by several acres of bushland and garden.
The unit has a separate entrance, an outdoor living area with BBQ, and free parking for two vehicles (no room for caravans, sorry). Amenities include open plan living with kitchenette, one bedroom with king bed (or two singles), spacious bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet and washing machine, internet with NBN and smart TV with Netflix. By arrangement, our heated 7m swimming pool (and hot outdoor shower) is available all year round. Feel free to use our private 5 minute walking access to the nearby foreshore along the River Derwent.

Modern facilities for 1 or 2 people in a bushland setting
Living/DiningThe living/dining room has NBN, and a smart TV with Netflix, etc. The entry opens to the outdoor area with tables and BBQ, and two parking spaces.
BedroomThe bedroom is light and airy, with bushland views. The king bed can be set up as two singles. The raised relaxation area against the window is the perfect spot for chilling out with a good book.
KitchenetteThe kitchenette off the living area is modern, clean and streamlined.
BathroomThe modern bathroom/toilet has a large walk-in shower, and includes a washing machine.

- How do we get there?
From Hobart, proceed south for 8km (15 minutes) on Sandy Bay Road (B68) which after the first 5km becomes the Channel Highway. Stop at bus stop 24 (river side) before turning sharply left at the sign “72, 74, 74A”, downhill on a shared bitumen driveway. Follow the signs to 74A and Taroona Apartment.
- What payment do you accept?
We prefer direct deposit. We do accept major credit cards (Visa and MasterCard).
- What do you provide?
We provide free of charge basic foods (tea, coffee, sugar, pepper, salt, condiments, oil, etc), gas for the BBQ.
We provide all bedding/linen and towels.
NOTE: We do not provide a cleaning service during your stay.
- What do we need to bring?
Bring all food and personal toiletries. We supply basics: tea, coffee, sugar, condiments, cooking oil, milk.
The nearest supermarket to Taroona Apartment is IGA in Lower Sandy Bay (approximately 5 minutes drive north).
A local cafe (The Picnic Basket) one kilometre south is open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week.
- Is smoking permitted?
Taroona Apartment is strictly non-smoking.
- Are pets allowed?
No, we do not allow pets anywhere on the property.
- Does the house have internet access and phone coverage?
The Apartment has NBN internet access, and a smart TV with Netflix, etc. Mobile phone coverage may be variable, depending on your carrier.
- Where’s the nearest petrol station?
Petrol/diesel and EV charging locations are available at Kingston (10 minutes and 8km south) and Sandy Bay (10 minutes and 8km north).

I have enjoyed staying several times in this lovely unit under the main house at Taroona. It has its own car park and private entrance with gardens surrounding a lawn and a beautiful outdoor sitting area. The accommodation is very comfortable, well appointed and suitable for short and long stays. The house and unit is situated on a sloped bush block overlooking the Derwent river in the quiet Hobart suburb of Taroona. Only 15 minutes drive from Sandy Bay, Salamanca Markets, Hobart city and waterfront. It's also very convenient to the southern suburbs of Hobart and is a short drive to Kingston Beach and the highway to Bruny Island and the Huon Valley. We loved the Taroona Apartment. It had everything we needed for our stay, and was so convenient to everywhere. The birds, wallabies and echidna in the lovely bush garden were a real surprise. We took the short walk across the little bridge on the property down to the River Derwent. We'd love to come back and stay longer.
